First ever Leguan Nite planned for November 9 : –event fully supported by GTA

RESIDENTS of the Essequibo River island of Leguan are gearing up for their first ever “Leguan Night”, come November 9. They believe that their island has the potential and scope to become one of Guyana’s top tourist attractions and destinations.

To this end, the Leguan Night Organising Committee, consisting of residents of the island, is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce to make the event a reality. The Organising Committee is currently soliciting participation in this venture, especially in the field of acquiring sponsorships; and the work seems to be progressing well, as Banks DIH and Gizmos and Gadgets have already gone on board! Shoe Haven has also confirmed their participation and the Shakti Strings Orchestra will be on hand to satisfy everyone’s musical needs.

Leguan Night would consist of a series of events, commencing with activities at the beach and culminating in the evening with a pageant in which eight to ten lovely ladies are expected to participate. The activities on the beach — volleyball, cricket, other games and competitions — will kick off at 10 am, while the pageant would be held at Greens Park Ground in Enterprise and would commence at 7 pm.

Food and drinks would be on sale at Greens Park Ground, and there would be other attractions. Some residents, for instance, would be showcasing products made in Leguan, along with their crops and animals.

Tickets for admission of adults to the proceedings cost for $500, and children would be admitted for $200.
