OPENER Neil Broom’s rapid century helped Otago Volts ease to a 62-run Champions League Twenty20 victory over Perth Scorchers at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur yesterday.

Broom scored 117 runs in just 56 balls, a knock which included nine fours and eight sixes, as the Volts set their opponents a mammoth 242 to win.
Liam Davis fell first ball to Ian Butler as the Scorchers response started in disastrous fashion before the loss of two further early wickets dispelled any chance of an unlikely comeback with Hilton Cartwright’s half-century the only positive as they fell way short of their target to post 180.
In yesterday’s later game, Rajasthan Royals secured their tenth straight home success with a 30-run win over Highveld Lions, keeping their unbeaten record at the venue intact.
Captain Rahul Dravid got Rajasthan’s innings off to a steady start with Shane Watson and Stuart Binny also chipping in with knocks of over 30 as the Lions struggled to breakthrough.
Australian Brad Hodge added a quick-fire 46 in the final few overs, including four boundaries in the last five balls, as Rajasthan finished on 183.
The Lions looked on course to better that mark as they sailed through the opening 10 overs but Rajasthan’s Pravin Tambe tore through their middle order with four wickets to leave the tail-end burdened with the ominous task of keeping up the run rate.
Inevitably the Lions struggled to rack up the runs as the wickets continued to fall and finished well adrift of their target on 153 for nine.
Rajasthan top Group A ahead of Otago with a maximum eight points, although they owe a degree of thanks to the weather after the other four teams in their league had to settle for draws on Monday when rain washed out play.
