AUBREY Johnson netted 21 points as Block 22 Flames rallied their way past Wismar Pistons, to win 50-45 while Amelia’s Ward Jets overcame Retrieve Raiders 70-63 and Half Mile Bulls edged Bankers Trust Falcons 48-45 in the Trophy Stall Regulation Open basketball championship being staged by the Linden Amateur Basketball Association at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.
On Saturday night the Flames were trailing 12-14 when the first quarter ended and 21-24 at halftime but were stalled on 21 during the third quarter as the Pistons moved to a seemingly comfortable 32-21 lead.
However, Johnson’s fourth-quarter burst which saw him net 16 points, secured the win for the Flames 50-45 with C. Johnson getting 9 and Kerwin Williams 8 for the winners, as Mark Louis came out as Pistons’ top shoot with 14 points and Dwight Cooper 13.
In the other game of the night the Jets beat Raiders 70-63, after leading 15-9, 34-23 and 52-39 before the final score.
The Webster brothers – Allister with a game-high 16, Shane with 15 and Joel 8 – were the leading scorers for the Jets. Sheldron Noel was the top scorer for the Raiders with 15 while Neil Marks had 9 and Dauwin Lovell 8.
Last Friday at the same venue, Half Mile Bulls registered a 48-45 win over Bankers Trust Falcons, after the scores were knotted at 10 at the end of the first quarter while the Bulls led 25-15 at halftime, but Falcons saw the third quarter end with the scores level at 36.
Terron Welch had the best score for the Bulls with 15 and Michael Turner netted 14, while for the Falcons Lawrence DaCosta had 11 and Dale Sauers chipped in with 9.
The competition continues today with two more matches at the same venue, wherein Bulls take on Jets in the opening game followed by the feature clash between Falcons and Raiders.
