GWI continuing upgrade of city sewerage pump stations

GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) has announced that it is continuing with the upgrade of sewerage pump stations and the installation of delivery mains under the Government of Guyana (GoG) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) US$10,000,000 Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme (GSIP).

According to GWI Project Manager, Orin Browne, the laying of pipes commenced from the Princes Street and Louisa Row junction on Monday, September 23 and installation is being done along Louisa Row towards the end of Cemetery Road and Sussex Street.
He said sewer pipes will also be laid along Sussex Street, going west to the Sussex and Charles Streets Junction.
Consequently, GWI is advising all customers residing in or traversing on the streets mentioned that there will be minor traffic diversions, breaking of roads and noise associated with the use of heavy equipment.
The utility is appealing to all customers for their patience during the execution of the GSIP, noting that it will result in significantly minimising sewage overflows and other problems associated with the sanitation system.
GWI also expressed gratitude to Georgetown customers for their continued partnership and apologises for any inconvenience experienced.
