Body in abandoned house… Court orders psychiatric evaluation of murder accused

TOTARAM Jageshwar called ‘Rasta’, 40, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at Whim Court in Corentyne, Berbice, on Monday, charged with the capital offence.

The accused is alleged to have murdered Ravindranauth Chand alias ‘Parbattie Bucket’, 54, formerly of Lot 66 Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, on Thursday September 19, in an abandoned house at Lancaster, Corentyne.
Police Corporal Althea Solomon, prosecuting, made an application for a psychiatric evaluation of the prisoner and it was granted.
The magistrate ordered that the prosecution must be able to provide the results when the case is called, again, on October 14.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem was conducted on the body of Chand on Monday.
A relative of the deceased, Rishi Dyasindoo said it was done at New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary by pathologist, Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan.
Dyasindoo said the dead man suffered a number of broken bones and a fractured skull, resulting from a beating.
