In burglary case… Man admits break-in but denies theft

ALVIN Archard, 27, of Lot 136 Alexander Street, Kitty, was granted $100,000 bail yesterday on a break and enter and larceny charge.

The defendant, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, admitted that he broke into the Princes Street, Lodge home, of Rosemary London, also in Georgetown, on September 11, but insisted he did not steal anything.
Particulars of the offence, however, said he stole one Blackberry cellular phone, four jerseys and two pairs of boots, valued a total $60,000.
“I only broke the lock but I didn’t take anything,” he insisted on being questioned by the magistrate.
But Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant secured her house and went to a bakery and, on her return, discovered that the padlock was broken.
The case will be called, again, on November 1.
