Miss Guyana Universe 2013 : Franchise holder promises night of spellbinding beauty and elegance

MISS Guyana Universe franchise holder, Odinga Lumumba, promises that staging of the Miss Guyana 2013 pageant — on Sunday, October 06, at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown — would result in a night of spellbinding beauty and elegance, as eight beautiful young ladies contest the title.

Lumumba said the Miss Guyana Committee is working feverishly preparing for the event, and further plans would be announced as early as next week.
The pageant will officially be launched at the Palm Court restaurant and night club on Main Street, Georgetown at 19:00 hrs this evening, and the sashing ceremony will take place the following week at a date to be announced beforehand. The question and answer segment will be televised live.

Lumumba said selection of pageant contestants was narrowed down to eight from a field of 20 prospective delegates, based on their ability to withstand the stress and rigors of being a Miss Guyana Universe contestant. “It’s a difficult thing to be a contestant. Eyes are on you, eyes are on your background; you have to juggle between work and exercise, and University of Guyana sometimes. It’s really hard on the girls most times,” he conceded.

Prizes for the Queen will include the trip to Moscow for three weeks, the prize money, and the University of Guyana education and more, as part of a fabulous package. The gala event will feature three catwalks, with one reaching out to the pool. He promised that admission price would be reasonable.

The contestants this year are: Carla Browne, Tiffanie Nieuenkirk, Ayanna Whitehead, Kenwa Cho Quan Yi, Katherina Roshana, Shyon Hoppie, Carlea Chapelle and Alicia Bess.

Twenty-year-old Ruquayyah Boyer was crowned Miss Guyana Universe 2012 at the poolside of the Princess International Hotel at Providence last September, and represented Guyana at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant, which was held on December 19, 2012 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America. Ms Leila Lopes from Angola crowned her successor, Olivia Culpo from the USA, at the end of this event.

Eighty-nine countries and territories participated in the 2012 pageant, which was transmitted live in participating countries and territories by NBC, Telemundo and the international broadcasters.
Miss Universe 2013 pageant would be the 62nd Miss Universe pageant to be held. Proceedings take place on November 9, 2013 at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia. American Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012, will crown her successor at the end of that event. This will be the first time Russia will host the pageant.
