GFA Premier League qualifiers – Riddim Squad to face Camptown, Conquerors oppose Santos in tonight’s double-header

RIDDIM Squad will face Camptown and Fruta Conquerors will oppose Santos when the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Premier League qualifiers continue tonight with another double-header at the Tucville ground.

All four teams will be looking to improve their stats with the hope of qualifying for the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) 16-team Premier League competition which is scheduled to kick-off on October 6.
Western Tigers with 12 points from four matches, all of which they won, head the points table with one match (against Santos) left to be played, and have booked their spot in the Premier League, joining two other Georgetown teams, Alpha United and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Alpha United and GDF were awarded automatic spots in the 16-team competition by virtue of Alpha United winning the GFF Super League 2012-2013 and GDF winning the GFA’s 2012 President Beer League.
Riddim Squad are currently on six points from two victories and a loss, while they have so far scored three goals and conceded a similar number.
A win in tonight’s feature game which is scheduled to kick off at 20:00hrs will propel them to nine points and a chance to qualify for the GFF’s Premier League since they still have a game in hand.
A win for Camptown will see them moving to four points from four matches with one more match to be played.
Even if they win tonight’s game and their final one, they would still have a chance of securing a spot in the GFF’s Premier League, since they will earn six points from the two victories.
With this in mind, football fans can anticipate a thrilling encounter, as both teams will have winning on their minds.
In the opening game from 18:00hrs, Fruta Conquerors, who have played two matches to date, are on three points and victory tonight and in their final two matches can see them filling one of the spots in the GFF’s League.
Santos have two points from three matches and a victory tonight and another victory in their final game, will take them to only eight points, so they have nothing to lose by going out tonight and restoring some pride for the club by registering a victory.
Eight spots have been awarded to the GFA teams and three have already been filled by Alpha United, GDF and Western Tigers, so with two spots remaining, football fans can expect some exciting football during the remaining GFA qualifiers, starting with tonight’s action.
The Georgetown teams will join Upper Demerara’s Milerock, Silver Shattas and Winners Connection, Berbice’s Rosignol United and New Amsterdam United, East Coast’s Buxton United and BV/Triumph and West Coast Demerara’s Den Amstel and Young Achievers.
A play-off between East Bank, Bartica and Essequibo will determine who secures the final spot for the GFF tournament which has at stake $3M for the winning team, $2M for the runners-up, $1M for the third-placers and $500 000 for the team placing fourth.
According to GFF president Christopher Matthias, lucky spectators will win prizes at each game during the tournament.
