OSMAN Brumell, of Lot 63 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment yesterday, on conviction for robbery under arms.
He had been out on $150,000 bail when the case was first called, on April 4, before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and he denied the allegation that, on April 2, also in the city, being in the company of another and armed with an ice pick, he robbed Ray Simmons of one gold chain, one gold band, one Blackberry cellular phone and $10,000 cash, making a total loss of $179,000 to the virtual complainant.
Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, told the Court, on that day, the victim and a male cousin went to Club Monaco on Sheriff Street, in Georgetown, too.
Around 01:50 hrs, the two men left the club and went to Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust, to where two identified male Negroes followed them.
After Simmons took off his jewellery and placed it in his pocket, the two men approached he and his cousin and one of them grabbed him but his cousin managed to free himself and run away.
In the meantime, one of the attackers took out an ice-pick and dealt the victim four stabs to his abdomen before relieving him of the jewels and he and his accomplice escaped.
Dino Giddings (no address given) who also faced with the same charge was freed because the Court was not satisfied with his identification.
