Forde retains AINLIM 10k title as Morgan places third

GUYANA’S long distance ace Cleveland Forde proved why he is the best athlete in that category last Sunday morning, by notching up yet another 10k title victory when he stopped the clock at 33m:16secs, to easily retain his AINLIM 10km title.
Forde, who has been plagued with various niggling injuries over the past

couple of months, won ahead of Cleveland Thomas who crossed the finish line 29 seconds after and Dennis Horatio who placed third with a time of 34m: 05secs.
altWinston Messenger and Nathaniel Giddings, who set the pace early in the event that was being held in its fourth year, completed the top five positions with a time of 34m:18secs and 34:34 seconds respectively.
However, while Forde lived up to his pre-race quote, where he promised to retain the crown, his opposite number Alika Morgan found the going tough in her division and was forced to settle for third place.
That category was claimed by the overseas-based Euleen Josiah-Tanner in a time of 39m: 21secs, with two-time Carifta Games gold medallist Jevina Straker, who stopped the clock at 40m: 51secs in second place and Morgan a second behind her.
Ashanti Scott (45m:12secs) and her Guyana Defence Force teammate Carlissa Atkinson (47m:19secs), rounded off the top five positions in the female category of the event, which, according to president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hudson, was an injury-free one.
The boys’ junior event was won by Carl McKenzie in 37:14s while Grivon Grant took second in a time of 37:32s. Kevin Nicholas (37:35s) and Samuel Kaiton (37:55s) were third and fourth respectively.
Carifta bronze medallist Andrea Foster rebounded from her loss at the Inter-Guiana Games last Saturday, to win the female junior version in 43:59s away from Cassie Kirton who clocked 45:43s and Adama Roberts who placed third in a time of 46:56s.
The Masters’ Men 45-55 was won by Ian Archibald in 39:32s while Llewellyn Gardener took the Masters’ Men 55-and-Over in a time of 42:49, with sprint ace Alicia Fortune ruling the Women’s Masters’ event, clocking 51:23 ahead of Cyrleen Phillips who recorded 52:33s.
