UG Library presented with copy of ‘A Collection of Indian-Guyanese Words and Phrases and Meanings’

THE University of Guyana (UG) Library Monday last  was presented with a copy of the recently-released publication “A Collection of Indian-Guyanese Words and Phrases and Meanings”  by Canada-based writer, Mr. Harry Hergash.

altAccording to a press release from the institution, UG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacob Opadeyi accepted the book on behalf of the university during a simple handing over ceremony in his office.
Hergash is also the founding member and president of the Ontario Chapter of the UG Guild of Graduates. According to  him, the publication provides a record of many of the words and phrases used by immigrants and their descendants.
He believes that language is an integral part of people’s culture and this was the impetus for the book. The publication of the book earlier this year coincides with the 175th anniversary of the Arrival of Indians in Guyana.
Vice-Chancellor Opadeyi expressed gratitude to Hergash for the significant donation, which would greatly enhance the library’s holdings.
