APNU’s Jaipaul Sharma has joined the fray for public notoriety on the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) matter, but I am confused as to whether Jaipaul Sharma realises that he is insulting his own party and praising his brother, Dr. Mahender Sharma, for making the GEA accountable to the National Assembly.
In his “interview” with Kaieteur News (KN), APNU’s Sharma outlined that the
GEA, an organisation formed by the PNC administration, had never submitted audited accounts for the period 1985 to 1995. The GEA formed in 1998 under the PPP/C administration has submitted accounts for the period 1998 to 2009 (albeit in 2013) and as stated by Ram, 2010-2013 GEA’s accounts have been audited but not yet presented during this recess period.
It seems to me, that under the stewardship of Dr. Sharma as CEO, the energy agency has been accountable and continues to be so. As a democratic society, isn’t that what we want?
On a side note, it would also seem to be a conflict of interest that Mr. Jaipaul Sharma should be sitting on the PAC to “scrutinise” the actions of his brother. This seems suspect and personal. How can we be sure that he is being impartial? Wouldn’t the “proper” thing for him to do is not to comment or even recuse himself in relation to this matter or anything involving the GEA?
