THREE Venezuela men, Paulo Carlos Roimando Garraway, 40, Alphonzo Sohoha Cauaseal, 75, and Sanchez Luis Jose, 24, who entered Guyana illegally by sea, were yesterday fined $30,000 each, with the alternative of three months’ imprisonment, after they were convicted of having entered Guyana at Charity, Essequibo Coast, on September 4, without the consent of an immigration officer.
Chief Magistrate Priya Seewnarine Beharry also ordered that they be deported.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, said the trio, who all pleaded guilty, are known to each other and arrived in a small boat. When apprehended and questioned by immigration, they had no documentation, but offered in their native language reasons for visiting Guyana.
Garraway and Cauaseal explained that they were invited by family members, but Jose claimed a friend told him that Guyana is so beautiful and that he “could
come and go like that.”
