Former Guyana Under-19 cricketer Shivanandan Madholall passes on

ESSEQUIBO, Guyana – Former Guyana Under-19 batsman Shivanandan Madholall passed away yesterday at his home in Essequibo due to illness.

The former senior Essequibo Inter-county cricketer died at the age of 30. The left-hander represented Guyana at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels from 1999 to 2002.
Shivanandan was the brother of former Guyana Under-19 batsman Rovendra Mandolall, former Essequibo Under-19 batsman Ravendra and Narindra Madholall.
Ex-Essequibo inter-county skipper Elroy Stephney stated that it was indeed shocking to hear the sad news. He further related that Shivanandan was a talented player and had mentioned his desire to make a comeback.
“It (is) indeed sad to learn about his sudden passing this morning. Recently we had a chat and he spoke enthusiastically about his comeback in the game after a break due to family and work commitments,” Stephney related.
Shivanandan’s elder brother Rovendra, who lives in Canada, also expressed sadness and felt he could have been a fine cricketer once he was willing to come back on the scene.
“I am devastated with the news that my younger brother passed away; it was very shocking for our family and by extension the cricketing fraternity. Playing cricket with him and teaching him some basics and then he went on to play for Guyana. I still think he could have done more for his county and his country,” Rovendra said.
Meanwhile, over the past two years, Shivanandan has been a dominant softball player representing Cotton Field Essequibo at the Guyana Softball League tournament.
He has left to mourn two children, aged three years and four months.
