This is according to Leader of the Guyana Islamic Trust, Haseeb Yusuf, during an interview with this publication Saturday.
Yusuf said that Muslims in Syria, Egypt, Burma, Palestine, and several other places are faced with sectarian conflicts and violence and this is now beginning to have an effect on Muslims in other parts of the world.
The Muslim elder said that as atrocities continue to be directed against Muslim brothers and sisters, the powers that be including United States President, Barack Obama and the United Nations have thus far been unable to come up with a resolution that will bring an end to the hurt being faced by Muslims.
Should this practice continue, the consequences will be that Muslims in other parts of the world, including the Middle East and other regions, will begin to suffer a similar fate as those in the states which have already recorded hundreds of deaths of Muslims owing to conflicts, wars and other unfortunate inhumane occurrences, Yusuf stated.
He told this newspaper that the two most glaring acts against Muslims are the recent killing of women and children by the Syrian government with the releasing of a toxic chemical and close to 800,000 Muslims in Palestine who are refugees in their own nation and who are refugees in other countries because of controlling forces, especially in Burma.
In addition, Yusuf spoke of the bombing of mosques, homes and the destruction of communities which have rendered Muslims homeless, and in states of devastation with no place to worship. The situation has now caused life to become unbearable for many Muslim women who see the destruction of their lives and family right before their eyes.
Also of concern to the local Muslim community here is the overthrowing of a legitimate and democratically elected government in Egypt by the army in that country, which seems to be clearly receiving support from other governments.
The takeover has seen the arrest and imprisonment of very influential Muslim leaders in that country and the killing of others without any justification. It has now reached a stage where highly recognised Muslims in that country are being demonised, Yusuf added.
He also observed that Muslims in other parts of the world, while not necessarily being killed, are having the devil’s own job practising their religion and dressing in their religious attire in some other countries of the world.
Meanwhile, the Muslim organisations in Guyana Saturday held a “Peace and Solidarity Walk and Rally” to pray for peace and unity of the Muslim Ummah (Global Muslim Nation) to call for an end to the bloodshed, turmoil and massacre of innocent people, especially children in Syria, Egypt, Burma, Palestine and several other countries plagued by sectarian conflicts.
The rally which was held at the Queenstown Jama Masjid on Church Street was attended by close to 500 Muslim brothers and sisters.
