AMAR SINGH, 58, a labourer of Anna Regina New Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast, was sent to prison for one month on Wednesday by Essequibo Magistrate Sunil Scarce for assaulting his 20-year-old daughter.
Reports stated that the father, an alcoholic, and his daughter were involved in a heated argument when he dealt lashes to her several time about her body with a piece of wood on August 17 last. Her body bore visible marks of “black and blue”.
Meanwhile, another labourer Joseph Singh, 52, of Queenstown Village on the Essequibo Coast, was sent to prison for six weeks by the same magistrate for using abusive language to his employer, Glannis Drakes, on August 22.
