ETI doing an excellent job in training youths

THE Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) is located in Anna Regina Essequibo in a building which was a huge Drainage and Irrigation Machine and Repair shop, built by the PNC government and in the early 1990s was converted by the PPP/C administration into a Technical Institute. This Institute is under the perview of the School Board Secretariat at the Central Office of the Ministry of Education.
The present School Board comprises four experienced school teachers, two social workers, one experienced graduate from G.T.I, a senior Lands and Survey official, one dental technician and a former Member of Parliament. The Institute is well staffed and offers a wide range of Technical training.
The landscape and building layout is student-friendly. The Institute recently established a Student Dormitory which presently accommodates approximately 60 students drawn from Moruka, Bartica and Essequibo Islands. The present enrollment is three hundred odd students. The Institute also offers evening classes and has solicited the support of “CARICOM RICE MILLS” at Anna Regina and Barama Company at Buck Hall on the Essequibo River, where several students are on a Work Study Programme financed by two entities. The Institute will soon acquire a school bus, which will facilitate school tours as other responsibilities of the Institute. The Institute have a ‘Canteen’, a Sports Ground and a lavish Assembly Hall security, First Aid and three staff members are trained to deal with emergency.
A dress code is noticeable as well as smoking and use of alcohol is prohibited on the premises.
The E.T.I Board Members deal with the role of students, moral behaviour and good social examples. While the Institute’s carpentry and cabinet facility has virtually fulfilled the classroom needs for furniture, the Institute has also donated a quantity of desk/bench to other schools. While the Institute participates in many civic exhibitions, it is always present at the “Annual Essequibo Night” held at the Anna Regina Centre Ground.
The E.T.I enjoys the support of the Civic Society in Essequibo and above all, full cooperation from the Region’s Administration Division.
