Eccles biker gunned down during brief but heated argument – source – called out of his home seconds before gunfire erupted

RELATIVES of thirty-year-old Kurt Davis who was gunned down in front of his home at Eccles, East Bank Demerara on Tuesday night, said yesterday  they learnt  from a source that after receiving a phone call around 9:30 hrs  he left  his house and  went downstairs and briefly spoke with someone, presumably the person who had called him out.

altAccording to the source, from all appearances  a brief but  heated argument ensued.  Within seconds, gunshots rang out, breaking the silence of the residential neighbourhood.  Kurt’s bullet-riddled body slumped to the ground where he lay motionless in a pool of blood at the roadside.  Immediately as the hail of gunshots ceased, they heard a vehicle drive away.
The loud blasts of  gunfire  attracted much attention and terrified employees at a nearby taxi service at Eccles  looked across and recognised that it was Kurt Davis, a well known biker, mechanic and taxi driver. Then one of the drivers from the taxi service placed Kurt   in a vehicle and rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Relatives confirmed that Kurt had   sustained eleven gunshot wounds, mostly to his chest and never regained consciousness.  Ironically, when the shots rang out, family members at the home of his grandparents,  Roy and Lorna Davis,  in the yard which was the former Onasis Domino Club, Bagotstown said they heard the sounds distinctly.  They were all alarmed and wondered where the gunfire  could be coming from but never thought  that their loved one was coming under fire.
But within minutes, Kurt’s elder brother Shawn received a phone call informing him about the tragedy.  Simultaneously, a cousin Nikisha was outside their grandparents’ home and an acquaintance ran towards her and breathlessly exclaimed “Kurt just get shoot up!” Reacting in shock, she enquired which Kurt, and learnt that it was her cousin – Trevor the barber’s son.  Hysterical, she ran back inside to let the others know. Panic gripped everyone as the family rushed to the GPHC but when they got  there he was already pronounced dead.
At the hospital, Nikisha and others got out of the car dazed, and they were approached by an uncle who told them that Kurt was dead.
The entire family was plunged into mourning – his parents Trevor and Olive and other siblings in the United States; grandparents Roy and Lorna Davis; son Kai Davis; other siblings and relatives at Bagotstown and elsewhere.
Kurt’s nine-year-old son, Kai, a student of School of the Nations, on learning of his father’s death, immediately went into shock and had to be taken to hospital where he was observed and treated.   He is still being monitored closely.
Still weeping bitterly yesterday, the dead man’s grandmother recalled what a wonderful person he was – not only to her but to the entire family.  He was well liked and everyone had a good report to give about him.  His cousins Nikisha and Anita  remarked, “He was such a loving person… kind and jovial, he had a way of lifting your spirits even when you were down.  You could get anything from him.”
