AS part of its 195th Anniversary celebrations, St. Andrew’s Kirk will hold a grand ‘Health Awareness Event’ on the grounds of the church at Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown on Saturday, August 31, from 10:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs.
The event is themed ‘Promoting Healthy Lifestyles through Educational Empowerment’, and its coordinator, Elder
Coralee Cambridge, said it is expected that 13 booths would be in place to empower and educate all persons present.
Discussions at the booths would include:
* Three hours of free one-on-one consultancy with doctors, who would avail themselves to provide this service for three hours.
* Maternal and child health advice
* Dietary advice – food and nutrition
* HIV/AIDS education
* Demonstrations of First Aid and emergency measures
* Cancer awareness information
* Physical education
* Traffic education
There will also be a Children’s Education and Gift Corner.
Health checks from which visitors to the booths can benefit include:
* Dental checks
* Blood sugar (glucose) tests
* Blood pressure (Hypertension) checks
* Blood group tests
* Cholesterol tests
* HIV voluntary counselling and testing
* Children’s Corner, and much more
The programme begins with a blessing from the moderator, the Rev Maureen Massiah, followed by presentations from Mr. George Rutherford, Past Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of Guyana; Dr. Thomas Richmond, and others.
Guest Speaker is Dr. Rudolph Cummings.
Thereafter, the booths would be open up for viewing and access to medical services.
The event would be of great value to both parents and children, and families are encouraged to make good use of the services, which are all free of charge. Prizes would be awarded in various categories at several booths. Refreshments would be on sale.
