Nicolas Anthony Smith (no address given) was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge of robbery with violence, allegedly committed in the heart of the city, when he appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Faith McGusty.
He was not required to plead to the offence that said on August 26 at Camp and Middle Streets, Georgetown, he being in the company of others robbed Jomal McDonald of one cellular phone and a pair of spectacles to the total value of $115,000.
In addition, he allegedly made use of violence against the virtual complainant (VC) at the time of the robbery.
Police Sergeant Seon Blackman, prosecuting, told the court that on that day the VC was walking along Camp Street when the accused and three others went to him and held him around his neck, choking him and cuffing him. Subsequently, they took away his cellular phone and spectacles and escaped.
Sergeant Blackman successfully objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. Bail was refused and the matter will be called again on September 3.
