Non Pareil, an East Coast Demerara village, is located about 14 miles from Georgetown, and this quaint place is highly populated but the roads are potholed and in dire need of repair.
Almost every street in this village is splattered with potholes and even the access road has also become quite bothersome to drivers.
The village was once blessed with good roads but these have deteriorated over the years as a result of lack of maintenance and now some sections are difficult to traverse because of the huge potholes.
Some residents have tried their best to fill the huge holes in the roads with builders waste and whatever else they could gather but these efforts are just not enough.
Therefore, they are calling on the authorities responsible to repair the roads before it becomes impassable.
Apart from the lack of maintenance, heavy duty vehicles such as large trucks have contributed to the current state of the roads.
Trucks can be observed parked on the shoulders of the roads and this has caused it to ‘fall apart’ leaving the place muddy and impassable for pedestrians.
According to some residents, many streets in this village have potholes that are so huge a child can take a comfortable swim in them.
