GTA sends congratulatory message to Sachia Vickery

THE Executive of Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) has sent a congratulatory message to Sashia Vickery, who has qualified as a wild card entrant for the US Open tournament, which opens tomorrow in New York.
Vickery, who played on the local circuit, while on a visit, has shown exemplary skills in the game she has played most of her life.
Vickery has become the second player of Guyanese parentage to have qualified for the United States Open which is the

final Grand Slam tournament on the Grand Slam calendar.
She is slotted in the bottom half of the main draw  where she would be competing with the likes of  13th ranked Ana Ivanovic, 11th seed and former US Open finalist Samantha Stosur  of Australia and second ranked Victoria Azarenka.

The bright smiling teen won the United States Tennis Association Girls 18’s tournament which guarantees the winner a wild carded spot into the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, and tournament.
She will open with her first professional matchup on Tuesday, August 27 against a qualifier who is yet to be determined.

Dearest Sachia,
The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) and the local tennis fraternity sends heartfelt congratulations to you and your parents for your recent crowning as America’s USTA #1 Under 18 female player. We are extremely proud and elated at this achievement but not surprised since we have been fortunate to see your exceptional talent on Guyana’s soil during 2009 after your remarkable accomplishment as the top Under-13 player worldwide.
We know that your high level of determination to become the World’s #1 female player will help you to achieve your ultimate goals in tennis.
Our local tennis players are highly inspired by your performance in tennis over the years and our juniors aspire to walk in your footsteps if given the opportunity. We will continue to use your successes to promote this great sport in Guyana.
Once again congratulations from us all and we wish you every success at the US Open 2013
