The group made donations to the Child Protection Agency, some State homes, and the Palms, contributing supplies, clothing, toys and some equipment.
Vice President of the NYGM, Holly Persaud said this is the group’s way of adding a little sunshine to the lives of the children and older citizens. The group has been hosting humanitarian and medical outreaches to Guyana for years now and plans to expand its reach during the next visit.
The group also regularly donates to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. She explained that the group’s interventions are based on the needs highlighted during its interaction with government, civil society and some non-governmental organisations in Guyana.
The NYGM, comprising New York-based Guyanese, is a charitable organisation incorporated in the State of New York.
The mission is funded by the group’s members and friends. Group members volunteer their services and in 2013 the visiting team included Drs. Tara Singh, Anila Ramphal and Mala Shewram as well as Holly Persaud, Shana Persaud, Sarah Persaud, Samantha Persaud, Christopher Jaglal and Jean Oumdeo.
