Marshall was reportedly stabbed by another Albouystown man who is said to be a known gambler in the community and is being sought by the police.
Trifky Marshall, the man’s twin brother, told the Guyana Chronicle that he had paid the alleged assailant $200,000 for him to make a gold chain and band for his brother who was killed during the money row yesterday.
According to family members, after a long time the man failed to provide the gold jewellery and he also did not return any part of the $200,000 he had been given.
According to relatives of the dead man, the alleged assailant claimed that he used the money to purchase cannabis and promised to get back the money and then he would ensure that the gold jewellery was made.
However, as time elapsed the jewellery items were still not produced but the man who is now wanted in connection with the stabbing was spotted wearing a gold chain. Relatives of the dead man said it was believed that the chain was made with the money given to make the jewellery for Tadaskie Marshall since the man previously had no such gold jewellery.
This newspaper was told that the transaction regarding the handing over of the money to the man for the jewellery had been done in the absence of Tadaskie Marshall since he was in the interior where he worked.
When he came out of the interior he was told of the situation regarding the man’s failure to produce the jewellery items for which he was paid. It is understood that the man had also been given extra money for his personal use.
Subsequently, Tadaskie approached the man on several occasions concerning the non-delivery of the jewellery but he only got promises from him.
Recently, Tadaskie saw the man wearing his newly-acquired gold chain around his neck and confiscated it but the man then vowed to reclaim it.
Persons in the community who claim to be familiar with the transaction explained that after confiscating the chain, Tadaskie used to wear it without “looking over his shoulder.” They said that he adopted that approach because he was confident that the chain belonged to him.
However, yesterday Tadaskie left his home to go about two corners away. It is not clear at what point the men became engaged but an argument broke out over the controversial chain and money and the man is alleged to have inflicted several stab wounds to Tadaskie.
He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and immediately taken into the Accident and Emergency Unit but died while receiving medical attention.
This newspaper was present at the hospital when his family got the news from staffers that he had succumbed to his injuries. They began wailing and were seen frantically trying to enter the Accident and Emergency Unit to get a glimpse of him.
Family members were then briefed by a doctor and they left the hospital and returned to Albouystown to inform other relatives.
The Chronicle was told by Tadaskie’s grandmother that she was at home when she saw a young resident running up the road announcing that “Tello just got juk up.”
This newspaper was also told that the man who allegedly did the stabbing was recently involved in another incident when he reportedly chopped a resident behind his ear.
The dead man, who does not have any children, was scheduled to return to the interior today. The police are said to be investigating the matter.
