The artiste explained that his actions were propelled by a series of disappointing arrangements on the part of the Slingerz team.
He said he was greatly turned off by the promoters, who had promised to send a private jet to pick him up at his home, but sent instead a very small plane that had no toilet facilities, forcing him to squeeze himself, his family members and associates, numbering 17, on the plane.
He said the plane took over 15 hours to travel from Jamaica to Guyana, and had to stop twice at two islands to refuel. Moreover, it had no food or washroom facilities onboard, and he just kept praying for his life throughout the entire trip to Guyana; he never prayed so much in his life.
Mavado said that when he finally arrived in Guyana, he never heard from Slingerz Entertainment until just before 4am, while the show was already in progress. He was asked to perform for 20 minutes and less money, since the crowd was ‘soft’ and time was limited; but before he could properly consider the offer, he was told that the police had stopped the show shortly after 4am.
Further, the entertainer is contending that he has not been paid all the money he was supposed to get.
Mavado said he would never intentionally “diss the Guyanese people”, but he felt disrespected by the treatment meted out to him by the promotional group, and by the arrangements they had made for him.
Mavado is still in Guyana, and wants to do a “cheap” show just for the Guyanese people. He said he would cover most of the costs, since this is where his career really took off, and he wants to give something back to his fans.
Mavado has been working with another promotional group to stage a show yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium.
Slingerz Entertainment is expected to issue a statement on the situation.
