President’s photographer robbed after trip to bank : –suspicious car in neighbourhood similar to one seen at bank earlier

CHATTTERGOON Jadoopat, popularly known as Tony by media operatives, yesterday had his car broken into as it sat in front of his Lot 351 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara residence between 11.30 am and 4.00 pm yesterday.

The intruder(s) carted off $650 thousand in cash and a Guyana passport.
Jadoopat is employed by the Office of the President as a cameraman/photographer for His Excellency President, Donald Ramotar, but is currently on annual leave. In an interview with this publication last evening, Jadoopat disclosed that he had earlier visited the Republic Bank at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. He said he had entered and exited the bank with a haversack, then proceeded to his home, where he left everything in his vehicle and entered his home, only to return to his vehicle to find that it had been broken into and his cash stolen.

The young man added that, besides the cash, the vehicle also had his tools of trade, which are worth millions, but those were not removed from the vehicle, which causes him to suspect that the person(s) who carried out the act might have trailed him from the bank.

Jadoopat told the Chronicle that a neighbour told him that while he was driving out of the community earlier in the day, he noticed a strange yellow taxi in the area with four occupants, including the driver. Jadoopat recalls that while he was at the bank he did notice a yellow taxi parked a short distance from his vehicle, but he did not pay it too much attention.

Asked if he was aware that a vehicle might have been trailing him, Jadoopat replied in the negative.

The bandit(s) shattered a small window on one of the back doors of the vehicle, through which he/she/they apparently pushed his/her/their hands into the vehicle to open the back door and extract Jadoopat’s bag. Jadoopat said the bag containing the money could not have passed through the small window of the vehicle.

Asked how much of a setback this loss represents, the man said it is terrible and tremendous. He explained that he is in the process of building his home, and that money was intended to pay the contractor for the work he had so far done. He said the money would also have served as a payment for the contractor to complete some final critical works on the building.

Meanwhile it was reported to the Chronicle that bandits also broke into the home of a woman while she was not at home yesterday, just a few doors from where Jadoopat lives.

The matter of the theft of Jadoopat’s money was reported to the police, and based on information reaching this newspaper, investigators from the city travelled to Grove, East Bank Demerara to investigate the incident and to dust for fingerprints. Jadoopat commended their prompt reaction, and said he feels satisfied that the police seem to have a lot of interest in capturing the robbers.
