Top CSEC students speak to the media about their present and future

ASPIRING structural Engineer Zimeena Rasheed was all smiles as she spoke to the media about her preparation for this year’s CSEC exams, at which she obtained an outstanding  and record 18 Grade Ones and two Grade Twos, securing the top position in the country.

altAsked what inspired her to write so many subjects, the Anna Regina Secondary School student said she simply wanted to make a try, and saw it as a challenge that she was willing to face.
Zimeena said her preparations and the exams itself were very challenging, since she put in a lot of work with her School Based Assessments (SBA’s) and attended so many lessons that it was sometimes hard to keep track of all of them.
She noted that her favourite subject is technical drawing, and the most challenging subject at this year’s exams for her was electricity.
Zimeena said she chose structural engineering as her career path because she has always been fascinated with buildings, especially tall ones, and while she is 100 percent sure about her future plans, she applied to, and was accepted into, the University of Guyana; and she thinks that she will most likely attend that institution.
Asked why she thinks the students of her school have been so successful at the examination, Zimeena said this can be credited to the teachers, and parents especially, since the parents are a strong body and the teachers are all dedicated and very special.
She expressed gratitude to God, her teachers, family members, and everyone who has helped her in some way or the other to be able to attain this excellent performance.alt
Zimeena’s parents were at a loss for words, and were very emotional when asked how they felt about their daughter’s performance at the CSEC exams.

Her mother, Mrs. Verina Rasheed, told the media that her daughter worked very hard, and while she knew that she would have done well, she did not believe that she would have done that well.
She wished the school all the best, and thanked the teachers and all those who contributed to the success of the students.
altZimeena’s father, Mr. Rasheed, said he feels good about his daughter’s performance, and would encourage her, as well as the other children, especially those at her school, to keep up the good work.
He thanked his wife for working along with their daughter while he was mostly in the interior areas working.

Zimeena is the current Anna Regina Secondary School Queen, and is also an active member of the President Youth Award of the Republic of Guyana (PYARG), having received the Gold Award President’s medal.
She dances both at the regional and national level, and also has a brown belt in karate.

YOGEETA PERSAUD (18 Grade Ones)
Gaining the second position in the country at this year’s CSEC exams was Yogeeta Persaud of the Anna Regina Secondary School, who attained 18 grade ones.
She told media representatives that she is very excited about her results, since she studied very hard until late in the night, and also attended extra lessons.
She said her favourite subjects are Mathematics and Chemistry, and she is thinking about a career in medicine, but is still undecided and weighing her options.
She expressed gratitude to her teachers and parents, who were very supportive, and encouraged students sitting the exam in the future to be positive, and focus on what they want to be in the future, and on the pertinent subject areas.

BIBI LATIFF  (14 Grade Ones)
Gaining the 18th position in the country with 14 grade ones at the CSEC exams was a relief for Bibi Latiff of Anna Regina Multilateral, who told the media that a lot of persons were anxiously waiting to see her results, and she is glad that she didn’t disappoint them.
According to her, she did not prepare as much as she would have liked to for the examinations, and did not really have a study routine, but she just studied before the exams, and had good lesson teachers.
Bibi said her favourite subject is Chemistry, and the most challenging subject was Office Administration, since she was supposed to do the subject but she didn’t study for two years, and not until a few days before the exam did she start studying.
She expressed gratitude to all of her teachers, family members and friends, who helped her along the way, and she advises students sitting the examination in the future not to worry too much.

TEAKARAM SINGH (14 Grade Ones, 1 Grade Two)
Anna Regina Secondary school’s Teakaram Singh told members of the media yesterday that he is very happy about his performance at this year’s CSEC examination,
where he gained 14 Grade Ones and one Grade Two.
Teakaram admitted that he studied very hard and expected to do well. His favourite subject is Mathematics, while the most challenging subject at the exams was Electricity.
The beaming lad said he would most likely be attending the University of Guyana, where he would study to become a lawyer, and he expressed gratitude to God, his relatives and teachers and others too numerous to mention.

RESHMA RAMDAHIN (13 Grade Ones, 1 Grade Two)
Reshma Ramdahin of Anna Regina Secondary School gained the 32nd position in the country at this year’s CSEC exams with 13 Grade Ones and 1Grade Two, and was overjoyed about her performance.
Speaking to the media, Reshma said although she worked very hard, she didn’t really expect those results, so she is very happy.
She explained that she studied very hard for at least two hours every day, while taking breaks in between, and she also attended a lot of lessons.
Her favourite subject is Science, since she has a passion for helping people, especially in the medical field; and her most challenging subjects at the exam were Physics and Spanish.
Reshma said she wants to attend the University of Guyana to study something in the medical field, and she would advise children to make sure they do their SBAs and at least have a study routine. They should also take their exams seriously, because the exam results can determine their future.
