Slingerz/NAWF Goals for Gold F/ball tourney – Dover, Simon optimistic about their respective team’s chances … as Alpha United face Grove Hi-Tec in feature match

WAYNE `Wiggy’ Dover and Herris Simon are both optimistic bout their team’s chances of coming out on top tonight when Alpha face Grove Hi-Tec from 20:30hrs in the feature game of the Slingerz/National Association of Women’s Football (NAWF) `Goals for Gold’ tournament which continues tonight at the GFC ground with a double-header.

Alpha United coach who is also coach of the `Golden Jaguars’ said tonight’s game will be the team’s first match since the break they had when the May-June rains started.
He however said he is very optimistic about the team’s chances against Grove Hi-Tec.
Dover said the team’s technical staff will be using tonight’s game to assess where the team is right now and what has to be done to get the players ready for the next hurdle.
According to Dover, the team have been working hard at defensive tactics but they did put in some work on offensive tactics.
The experienced coach said as a group his charges need to work defensively.
Asked if he has any prediction in terms of the score line, Dover said, “While we want to win, we want to see how they (team) do their work defensively then go back to the drawing board.”
Dover said over the past two weeks the team intensified from the basic stage to where they are right now.
“So tomorrow’s (tonight) game will be an assessment of how his charges finish which he admitted is a problem that has not only been plaguing Alpha United, but all local club teams and even at the national level,” Dover stated.
“We would not be taking Grove lightly.  The team that has a game plan and executes it will most likely win the game.”
The Alpha United starting lineup will include Dwight Peters, Anthony `Awo’ Abrams, Manesseh Primo, Anthony Benfield, Philbert Moffat, Kelvin McKenzie, Quincy Madramootoo and custodian Richie Richards.
Simon too did not make a prediction but stated that his charges are capable of winning tonight’s game and the overall title.
“Going against Alpha is a good challenge but I am confident we can win the game and the tournament. We will put our best foot forward and if Alpha lapse, they will collapse.”
Simon said he has only been with the team a few months and the team he got is a fairly new side.
He said the team played a friendly match against top West Demerara side Slingerz and were beaten by a 3-0 margin, which to him is a good showing, since Slingerz are known for registering 10-0 and 13+ victories.
The East Bank starting lineup will include Sherman Doris, Lloyd Matthews, Travis Jones, Orin Hunt, Delroy Dodson and Teshawn Blackman.
In the opening game at 18:30hrs, BK Western Tigers face Seawall United.
Western Tigers’ lineup will include Phillip Rowley, Deryck Carter, Solomon Austin, Gavin Wilson, Jerome Richardson, Shermon David, Leroy Pedro, Randolph Wagner and Dorin Benjamin.
Seawall United will field Marvin Griffith, Dexroy Adams, Mark Boyce, Wendell St Hill, Travis Best and Sherwin Lanferman in their lineup.
