I FOLLOWED closely the reports in the paper of the trial of two accused in relation to the Lusignan massacre. When the verdict came out I was shocked and could not understand how that was possible.
But now I see that this travesty of justice was also possibly influenced by the relations between one of the defense lawyer, Nigel Hughes and the Chairman of the Jury.
This miscarriage of justice is becoming a norm in our country. We cannot afford this.
I wish to say that we should remove jury trial because it seems that it is quite easy to get at them. This mentality is deep rooted in our society since the period of undemocratic rule and proving so difficult to eradicate.
