During Eid programme… Berbice Bridge Company honours one of oldest Muslim Guyanese

ON the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI) on Monday held a programme during which Ms. Shira, one of the oldest Muslim Guyanese living between Rosignol Village and D’ Edward Village, Berbice, was honoured and presented with a food hamper.

altThe programme included opening remarks on the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr, which is celebrated to mark the ending of Ramadan or the Muslim’s month of fasting, by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Berbice Bridge Company, Mr. Omadat Samaroo.
In addition, there was singing by special invitees and special thoughts on the holiday were delivered by Ms. Alesha Alli, Imam Ayub and Mr. S. Alli, an employee of the Berbice Bridge Company Inc.
According to a press release from the BBCI, the company not only plays the role of collecting tolls and facilitating vehicles crossing the Berbice River Bridge and vessels transiting through the retractor opening and under the high span, but also discharges its corporate responsibilities and more importantly plays an integral part in the development of education and sports, as well as supporting national events and making donations to charitable and non-charitable organisations in close proximity to the Bridge.
In the past, the company has sponsored many events that benefited the communities both on the eastern and western sides of the Berbice River Bridge.
The release noted that for the year 2013, the BBCI  has thus far received 64 Public Relations requests and managed to approve 57 of these requests comprising  sponsorships of Mashramani 2013 events; sponsorship of horse racing events; and donations of trophies to various non-profit and educational institutions, among others.
