15-year-old secondary school student discovered four months pregnant : –confesses to liaisons with mature man on E’bo Coast

A 15-year-old student of the Pomona Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast is four months pregnant, according to confirmed reports.

The child, who lived in at the school dormitory during the last term, was discovered pregnant after feeling unwell at her mother’s house in the Charity Housing Scheme last Monday.

The student’s mother said she went for her daughter at the school dormitory after school closed on July 6, but did not notice her abdomen showing any signs of pregnancy. She said her daughter, who lived with her aunt in the Charity Housing Scheme, would visit her from time to time; and she came to her house last Monday, ate chowmein with chicken, and had an upset stomach after the meal, vomiting several times.

The child was rushed to the Charity Hospital, where she was given saline and a pregnancy test, which conformed she was four months’ pregnant.

The mother, who broke down in tears while speaking to the media, said she was in shock and started to scream at the hospital after a doctor broke the news to her. She said her daughter had two years six months more at school before writing the CXC examinations.

The mother, who is poor and sickly, said she worked hard over the years to support her only child, and was very devastated at what had happened to her.

The mother said she had wanted her daughter to do well at the examination and get a good job, but now those dreams are shattered like a broken mirror.

The mother said her daughter told her that “a mature man” had taken advantage of her and had impregnated her. She said she also learnt that the man had taken her daughter to a hotel at Henrietta one night, and had also taken her to several night spots around the towns of Anna Regina and Charity.

The very frustrated mother said she wants the police, the Ministry of Human Services, and the Ministry of Education to launch a full investigation into the matter, so that the man who has impregnated her young daughter and “destroyed her life” can face the full force of the law.

The student has joined the clinic at the Charity hospital.
