New Hope murder of elderly man reminiscent of murder of elderly women : … just like three elderly women who lived alone,

THE body of Sukdeo Singh, 86, of New Hope Public Road, East Bank Demerara was found under a heap of dried grass in his yard at about 14:00 hours on August 1, 2013. There were suspected chop wounds on the body.

Police say no arrest has yet been made following the bloody murder, but a probe has been launched.

A post-mortem performed on Sukdeo Singh’s body by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as haemorrhage and shock due to a fractured skull.

The door to Singh’s home had been found open, and the house had been ransacked.

When this publication visited the man’s house yesterday, his immediate neighbour, who resides several yards away, said she is new to the area and had never had a conversation with him. She said she sometimes saw Singh in his yard when the place was weeded, as he would be clearing up the grass. She said she learnt of his murder when her husband informed her of the man’s demise after she had returned home from the hospital.

The woman said that she often saw the Singh alone, and, like others, could not say if he had relatives residing nearby.

The gate to the property was secured with a chain and padlock, and the yard appeared as though nothing had happened there. But heaps of dried grass were observed in the yard.

In February 2011, the bound body of 64-year-old Prampattie Ramsundar, called ‘Aunty Daro’, was found in the bottom flat of her Lot 88 Second Street, Newtown, Enmore home. Her hands had been bound, and a telephone cord had been wrapped around her neck.
A sister who found the body said there was no sign of forced entry to the victim’s house. She believes this fact suggested that her slain sister had known her attacker, and had willingly opened her door to that person.

Ramsundar’s house had been ransacked, and there were ashes in her home, indicating that her attacker(s) was/were smoking in the house. According to the sister, over $500,000 in cash had gone missing.
Neighbours had heard screams at around 03:00 hours on the day that the elderly woman had been slain.
In early March 2011, two schoolgirls found the body of 74-year-old Khirul Najidam, called Babloo Saddick, in a store room located in the lower flat of her 1215 Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown home. She had been bound and gagged, and her home had been ransacked. Saddick had last been seen alive at around noon on the same day she had been slain.
The victim had operated a small confectionery stand.
At around 15:00hrs that day, a group of school children went to the woman’s house to make a purchase. After calling and getting no response, two girls ventured further into the yard, and found the woman’s body in the storeroom.
One neighbour claimed to have seen three young boys running from the house at sometime before 15:00 hours; but she had thought nothing of it, since some persons often tried to steal the woman’s fruits.

Also in 2011, the partly nude body of 68-year-old Sukhdai Ramkilaum, called ‘Mama Rose’ and ‘Rosaline,’ was found in a pool of blood in the bedroom of her Lot 80 Vryheid’s Lust North, ECD residence. Her throat had been slit, and her home had been ransacked.
Like the other victims, Ramkilaum also lived alone.

The dead woman’s nephew, who lived next door, said the first sign that he and his wife received that something was amiss was when the woman didn’t respond to calls on Tuesday afternoon. His wife thereafter observed blood dripping from the floor boards to the ground below.

He then contacted the police, who accompanied him to the house, where they made the grisly discovery.
