Chairman of the Board of Directors of Demerara Tobacco Company Limited (Demtoco), Mrs. Amanda Cavill de Zavaley, yesterday announced the appointment of Mr. Jason Fournillier as the Managing Director of Demerara Tobacco Company Limited, effective May 2013, following the promotion of Ms. Malissa Sylvester to another role within the British American Tobacco (BAT) Group.

Mr. Fournillier, a Trinidadian national, began his career with British American Tobacco in October 2004, after 10 years in the commercial banking sector. He has a wealth of experience in the trade marketing function, having had both regional and international assignments in Costa Rica, Spain and various Caribbean markets, a Demtoco press release stated.

His work in the Caribbean islands is evidence of the qualities that he possesses as a leader and a creative visionary, the release also stated. He has led the effort to develop new distribution channels in the Belize market, resulting in double-digit growth for the business and making that country a key player within the BAT portfolio. His most recent appointment was Trade Marketing and Distribution Manager for West Indian Tobacco Company Limited in Trinidad.

The Board said that it is naturally delighted to have been able to choose such a strong and experienced candidate to succeed Ms. Sylvester, who they credit for positioning the company on a path to sustainable growth.

The Board of Directors along with its management and staff extended a very warm welcome to Mr. Fournillier and wished him every success in his new role, the release concluded.
