Education Ministry appoints Mrs Doodmattie Singh DCEO

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the appointment of Mrs. Doodmattie Singh as the Deputy Chief Education Officer (DCEO) with responsibility for Development.

In a press release issued yesterday via that ministry’s public relations officer, Suelle Findlay-Williams, the Education Ministry stated that Mrs. Singh has an extensive background in education; having spent 34 years as an educator, and having taught at all levels of the Guyana education system.
“She started her career as a Pupil Teacher at the Vergenoegen Nursery School, and by 1985 was one of the few persons with a Class 1 Grade 1 Trained Teacher’s Certificate in Nursery Education,” the ministry informed.

According to the release, apart from her outstanding professional experience and contributions as a teacher, Mrs. Singh also served as Administrative Officer in the Department of Education of Region 3; District Education Officer 11 in Region 3; Regional Education Officer of Region 3; and Regional Education Officer of Region 4.

The release added that the new DCEO also served as Assistant Chief Education Officer for all three levels – nursery, primary and secondary — from 2007 to May 2013.

“The opportunity to train and supervise at all levels of the education system has given her a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be an asset to her in her current position as Deputy Chief Education Officer – Development,” the ministry stated in the release.

Mrs. Doodmattie Singh holds a Bachelors Degree in Education – Teaching and Administration (Primary), and a Master of Arts Degree in School Management.
The ministry’s release also stated that the Education Minister, Priya Manickchand extends her congratulations to Mrs Singh, and wishes her success in all her endeavours.
