THE body of 26 year old Delon Melville of 134 Nelson Street, Mocha East Bank Demerara will be laid to rest today in his home village as the police continue their investigations into his gruesome death.
Delon Melville left his home on Monday evening in search of cartoon movies for his nephew to watch but never returned home. His nephew claimed that before Melville left the home at just about 20:00 hours on the night in question, he received a telephone call via his mobile phone.
Family members reported the man as missing after he was found absent from his bed on Tuesday morning and a search had been launched for him.
It was not until Friday morning that youngsters of the village who were on their way for a session of bird catching stumbled upon the body of Delon in a drain in a very isolated part of the village almost half- mile away from where he lived.
His family said that he is not known to venture into such places and more so, with someone he did not know.
On Friday the partially decomposed and totally nude body of Delon Melville was found lying face up in a trench with several marks of violence including slashes to his neck, back and he also sustained injuries to his head. There were also reports that the young man’s genitals were smashed.
Ever since the man was missing, his family had been behind the police to act swiftly to locate his mobile phone by way of tracking, since someone was using the phone and family members were even receiving calls and text messages from the number.
Family members on the day after the man left his home received a call from his mobile phone informing his relatives that he was dead. The caller informed the family that the body was in Sophia but checks to that area proved nothing of worth. The caller then called again later that day to say that the body was in Mocha.
The police seem to be having the devil’s task in coming up with a motive for the death of the young man and who may be responsible, and investigations are continuing.
