THE Chronic Disease Unit Department of Control in the Ministry of Health plans to establish its annual Diabetes Youth Camp 2013 at the camping grounds of Ashmin’s Fun Park & Resort, along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway on August 3 and 4. A release said the objective is to educate or reinforce diabetes education and impart life skills for self-management to reduce the susceptibility to further health risks associated with the sickness.
The target group is children from all across the various Regions of Guyana suffering type one diabetes mellitus, who are the beneficiaries of the ‘Sponsor A Child’ initiative.
To date, on record, there are 48 children who will benefit from this outreach, receiving supplies including alcohol prep pads, lancets, novofine 31G needles and glucose test strips, all of which are provided with support from partners in the Private Sector.
The release said this Saturday sessions begin at 10:30 hrs and the Sunday starting time is 09:30 hrs.
