Armogan explains results of $20M budget deduction

CHAIRMAN of Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne), Mr. David Armogan has said that a $20M deduction from the budgetary allocation has resulted in the Administration not being able to fill the several potholes on the various thoroughfares.

altHe said the money was to help rehabilitate the East Bank Berbice road.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle after residents complained about the state of the roadway, Armogan said the Administration was optimistic that the money may have been released by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to reconstruct the entire East Bank Berbice roadway but it was not forthcoming and that resulted in the sum being deducted.
Armogan said: “Over $20M was subtracted from our programme because it was touted that the IDB monies would have been available this year. So we did not cater for the East Bank road in our budget. We had wanted to do patch works across the Region.
“Sometimes, we pass and see the potholes but we can’t do anything as finance is not there. It‘s not that we are not seeing it but is the lack of finance. A lot of the monies are being spent on East Bank Berbice roadway. We wanted to purchase crusher run and tar to fill the potholes on our thoroughfare. Hopefully we won’t put any money on that road next year, as we will have monies budgeted for   maintenance of roads.”
