THE president, executive and members of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) have issued a statement calling on all parliamentarians and stakeholders to support the enactment of the Amaila Falls Hydro-power Project (AFHP) bill. In the statement, signed by President Leekha Rambrich, the CCCC stated that the project will create higher paying jobs and will challenge Guyanese youth to be builders in every walk of life
The CCCC said the importance of this project could never be overemphasised, since it is vital for the transformation of the manufacturing and agro-processing sectors.
Due to the non-competitive cost of electricity , rejection of this bill, the Chamber stated, will leave local manufacturing companies unable to compete with international companies .
The release from the Chamber said, “ Guyana has been waiting a long time for hydropower. Now is the time to make this energy a reality. Renewable, affordable and reliable energy will help Guyana to move forward in a positive direction and enhance enormous economic development.”
