A FIFTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD landlady, of Lot 721 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was granted $10,000 bail yesterday, when she appeared in court charged with offences against her tenants. Before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan, Suzette Nurse pleaded not guilty to using abusive language and disconnecting utility supplies without the consent of her leaseholders.
Particulars of one offence said, on Saturday, July 13, at Lot 207 East Ruimveldt, also in Georgetown, being the landlord, she disconnected the water and light without the consent of her tenant, Garfield Cox.
The other charge said, on Wednesday, July 17, at East Ruimveldt, in the city, too, she used abusive language to her tenants, Cox and Trisha McIntyre.
Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, did not object to pre-trial freedom for Nurse.
Attorney-at-law, Mr. George Thomas, representing the defendant, acknowledged that Nurse is the property owner but argued that the water supply was not disconnected by her.
The lawyer said, rather, it was by the intervention of Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), because the tenants, who still live there, failed to make payments.
Nurse has to be back in court on July 25.
