Sister declines testimony in assault case, brother bonded

A WOMAN declined to give evidence against her bother on Thursday causing Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan to dismiss his assault charge.

Twenty-five-year-old Ryan Westmaas had pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which alleged that, last June 18, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Glenetta Westmaas at Lot 3415 Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, had told the Court that the siblings are residents at the Stevedore Housing Scheme address and, that day, the defendant ran behind his sister with a scrubbing board and dealt her a lash to the back.
However, before dismissing the case, the magistrate warned the defendant that, if not for the mercy of his sister, he would not have been given such a liberty and bonded him to keep the peace for one year.
