THE murder trial of Cyon Collier alias ‘Picture Boy’, which should have started Thursday at the Demerara Assizes, was postponed to July 29.
That was at the request of the accused who told the presiding judge, Justice Navindra Singh, that he had hoped to retain a certain attorney-at-law but would not be able to do so before the next two weeks.
After consulting Senior State Counsel Judith Gildharie-Mursalin, the judge granted the adjournment, allowing Collier more than the time for which he had asked.
Justice Singh made it quite clear to the prisoner that, if he is not ready to secure the lawyer’s services by then, the State would assign one for him.
However, Collier said he is aware that the State, usually, assigns lawyers for such offences.
Smartly attired, he left the courtroom with the knowledge that, if his case cannot start on July 29, it might have to be done at another criminal session.
Collier is indicted for the unlawful killing of Carl Anderson nicknamed ‘Alo’, on September 23, 2006.
