A 51-year-old coconut picker of the Lower Pomeroon River was remanded to prison on Monday when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce in the Charity court to answer a charge of having sex with his daughter.
The coconut picker was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read to him in camera. According to the magistrate, the police said the man (whose name this publication has withheld so as to protect the identity of the victim), between April and May this of year, allegedly committed the act of having sex with his daughter.
Prosecutor Krishna Datt Ramana objected to bail on the grounds that the virtual complainant lives with the accused in the same house and he could commit the offence again, if granted bail.
The man was unrepresented in court. The coconut picker is expected to make another court appearance on 29 July.
