THE GUYANA Squash Association (GSA), in collaboration with its number one corporate sponsor Digicel, will hold the Digicel Senior National Squash Championships at the Georgetown Club Courts from today at 18:00hrs and commencing at the same time on all days and 11.00hrs on Sunday. Several of the leading squash players in Guyana will be participating in these championships and the defending champions are Alex Arjoon in the Men’s Division and Nicolette Fernandes in the Women’s, with Nicolette for the second successive year, doing battle for supremacy in both categories as she seeks to gain valuable match practice.
Other notable players who will be involved in the tournament are Jason Ray Khalil, Regan Pollard, Nyron Joseph, Ben Mekdeci, Steven Xavier, Raphael De Groot and Deje Dias in the Men’s Division and Ashley Khalil, Ashley De Groot, Mary Fung A Fat, Victoria Arjoon, Kathy Shuffler, Taylor Fernandes, and Akeila and Larissa Wiltshire in the Women’s Division.
The players are all looking forward to this tournament and to playing on the two recently refurbished courts at the Georgetown Club facility.
The leading junior players are in their final weeks of preparation for the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships to be held in Trinidad & Tobago from July 22 to 28, 2013 while the Senior Caribbean Squash Championships will be held right here in Guyana from  August 11to 17, 2013.
