HIRE car driver Colin Henry, who became unconscious and ran off the road at Mount Sinai, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, on Tuesday, when he was fined $25,000 by Magistrate Roby Benn at New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, prosecuting, said the incident happened last June 18, when the defendant was transporting passengers, three of whom were injured as a result.
Henry told the Court he suffers from high blood pressure but was unaware it had increased that day.
However, he pleaded for leniency and informed the Court that he has a paralysed daughter at his Lochaber, West Canje home, also in Berbice.
The magistrate, nevertheless, upbraided the errant man and reminded him of his service to the public.
“If you are unwell, you should not be driving. It’s a public service and you are endangering the lives of the public,” Magistrate Benn admonished Henry.
