ANOTHER man was refused bail on drug trafficking charges when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday.
Fifty-three-year-old Floyd Campbell, of Lot 117 Sideline Dam, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison on two separate narcotics charges.
He pleaded not guilty to being in possession of three grammes of cocaine and 287 grammes of cannabis (marijuana), on Friday, June 28, at Aranka Landing, Cuyuni River, Essequibo, for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, again, successfully, made an objection to the grant of pre-trial liberty, pointing to the seriousness of the crime and stating that the defendant may be a fight risk.
The refusal was despite Defence Counsel George Thomas stating that Campbell is a shopkeeper and the sole breadwinner of his family.
The lawyer said the defendant was cleaning the oven area of his kitchen when he stumbled upon the substances but did not recognise them.
Both cases were transferred to Bartica Court for July 11.
