Region 6 awards 17 contracts for capital works

SEVENTEEN contracts were signed, yesterday, between the Region 6(East Berbice/Corentyne) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and contractors to execute capital works financed under the $380M subvention for 2013.

Talthe pacts amounted to $91,639,408 and the jobs are to be undertaken from Orealla to East Bank Berbice, according to the documentation to which signatures were attached in the RDC Boardroom at Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam in the presence of representatives of the Neigbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs).
Extension of the Regional Stores will be done by contractor S.B. Mohamed for $3,661,272, while Memorex Enterprises is to build heavy-duty bridges at Sandreef Access Road and Warren Village, along with a shed at the Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA) building in New Amsterdam at the cost of $5,283,264, $2,845,700 and $3,045,438, respectively.
D. Tahal will be responsible for excavating the Rotterdam-Buseslust Facade on East Bank Berbice and rehabilitate the Health Centre Street in Canje, costing $7,245,000 and $6,820,737, in that order.
Erection of phase two of Albion Front Nursery School will be by Y. Berai, for $4,004,947 and the sanitary block at Belvedere Primary School would be built by C. Dundas for $3,045,438.
Anirud Ramcharitar has been tasked with erecting an access bridge at the RDC compound and the rehabilitating of the Auchlyne Third Cross Street, the first for $3,310,040 and the second for $6,965,332.

Doctors’ Quarters
The rehabilitation of Edinburgh Community Centre Street will be carried out by EWA (Angel) Construction for $7,830,430 and P. Basdeo and S. Ramsarran will enclose and rehabilitate the Doctors’ Quarters at Lots 3, 4 and 5 Asylum Street, New Amsterdam for $4,366,721 and $5,178,187.
Excavation of the Enfield Drainage Canal on the East Bank of Berbice will be by R. Latchman for $5,436,679; reconstruction of a heavy-duty bridge at Lighttown, also at East Bank Berbice, by M. Niamatali for $6,527,181; A. Prabudial would build an 8 feet by 10 feet bridge at Highbury for $7,571,663 and the erection of the Orealla Timber Revetment will be done by Associated Construction Services for $8,400,907.
Prior to the signatories affixing their signatures, Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr. Bhupaul Jhagroo thanked the awardees for bidding and working along with the RDC in the past.
He also encouraged them to deliver quality services that would improve the lives of residents in the region.
“You have done well in the past, but there is always room for improvement. We look forward for your full support and, as Chairman of the Regional Works Committee, my expectations are high,” Jhagroo informed the group.
He disclosed that bills of quantities will be made available in every community where works would be executed and residents are asked to closely monitor the execution and report any shortcomings to the Regional Administration.
