THIRTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Stephan Harry of Lot 417 North East La Penitence, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to trafficking cocaine when he appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Thursday, June 28.
Police Sergeant Ramsahoye Rambajue, prosecuting, alleged that on Wednesday, June 26, ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch at Eve Leary conducted a search at Harry’s home and unearthed the illegal substance. Harry was told of the offence and was subsequently arrested and charged.
Attorney-at-law Ms. Latchmi Rahaman, representing the defendant, said multiple occupants were in the home, and neither Harry nor his wife had allowed the police access to the home, but the ranks entered the Harrys’ matrimonial bedroom to awaken them from sleep with the claim that they had found the illegal substance in the Harrys’ bathroom.
Prosecutor Rambajue objected to the granting of bail on grounds of the nature of the offence and the penalty attached. He posited that, if granted bail, Harry may not return for trial.
The defence lawyer said her client has an unblemished record, and has been fully cooperating with police during the investigation. She added that Harry’s wife is also in custody, and has not yet been released.
The magistrate granted bail in the sum of $250,000, and the matter was set for recall on July 10.
