Police probing who shot two in ex-footballer’s home

FORMER football player of Fruta Conquerors, Kevin Grimes does not think that the invasion of his home by three bandits last Saturday night was to carry out a hit on him nor was he targeted. He expressed those views yesterday when asked by the Guyana Chronicle in an interview at his Lot 1858 Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown residence.
It was there the trio invaded and fired shots injuring two persons.
Grimes said he believes that the shooting was done by persons who were out to rob his family and ruled out the possibility of himself being the direct target.
He said he has no problem with anyone and that he “lives good” with all those in his contact.
On Saturday, three men, not known to him, jumped on the verandah of the Grimes family home and proceeded to beat him. When his father, 67-year-old George Grimes rushed to his assistance, he was shot twice.

Canadian citizen
Kevin Grimes’ wife, a Canadian citizen, also suffered a bullet wound in her abdomen and up to late yesterday afternoon was still a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Her father-in-law was discharged from the same institution earlier in the day.
Kevin Grimes and his friend, Dexter Fergus, were  assaulted during the Saturday night attack but the police have not yet revisited the area to question persons in the community or take statements from the other occupants who were in the house at the time.
Investigators did get a statement from Fergus and he told this newspaper he has not heard from them since.
Police said they did not get any depositions from the occupants of the house because they refused to give any.
Police ‘A’ Division Commander Derrick Josiah, when contacted, said the investigators must be allowed to do their work.
