No arrests yet but… : Police fear Saturday night shooting triggered gang war

FOUR days after 22-year-old Christopher Gonsalist, of Lot 142 James and Hill Streets, Albouystown, Georgetown, was shot three times in his feet and left bleeding on the roadside, police are yet to apprehend anyone in the continuing investigations. A police source, however, confirmed yesterday that the probe is ongoing even as relatives of the injured young businessman claimed they know who may be connected to the shooting and that information has been communicated to the investigators.
Last Saturday night, two men on a CBR motorcycle rode up to Gonsalist as he stood at the Albouystown corner  opposite his home and opened fire on him. He was struck by three bullets, two on his left foot and one on the right and remained in a pool of blood until his sister went to his rescue.
The Guyana Chronicle learnt, subsequently, that after incident the men on the motorbike rode around the block and returned to the scene but by then the victim had secured himself in the area.
A source remarked, yesterday, that the police fear the shooting being investigated may have started a gang war.

DISCHARGED
Meanwhile, Gonsalist, who has been discharged from hospital was not at home yesterday and was said to be looking after his scrap iron business.
One relative said he is able to walk but not like before and is moving around on a bicycle.
The sister, who had been in conversation with her brother just before he was shot, said the family fingered a well known individual previously seen in company of some very senior police officers from time to time.
It was also reported by persons in the Albouystown area, that the named suspect operates a lucrative illegal operation at an establishment sometimes visited by  policemen.
Relatives of the injured man have alleged, too, that whenever reports about the suspect are made to the police, including threats he would usually make to other family members, they are never properly investigated.
They recalled a recent occurrence when the same man’s dog attacked relatives of the wounding victim but those bitten by the animal were locked up, as it was claimed that they had attempted to rob the owner.
