Husband remanded to prison for damaging wife’s kitchen utensils – and using abusive language, threatening behaviour

WAYNE Williams, 40, a mason of Lot 14 East La Penitence, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate, Fabayo Azore on three charges.

After the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied, he pleaded not guilty to damage to property, using abusive language and threatening behaviour.
He denied that, on Sunday June 16, at East La Penitence, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a quantity of louvre window panes and kitchen utensils, all valued $90,000, property of his wife Sharmaine Williams.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the husband, stating that he threatened to burn the woman’s house and behead her.
The prosecutor said that happened after the damaging of the property and, if granted pre-trial freedom, he may interfere with the virtual complainant.
The defendant claimed, though, that, on Father’s Day, he bought a few beers to drink with friends and his wife locked him out of their home, causing him to have to break the windows for entry.
He also alleged his wife lashed him with a pot about his body.
However, he was remanded to prison until June 26.
